After years of preparation in the shipping industry, low-sulfur fuel has emerged as the dominant option for complying with the International Maritime Organization’s new global emissions regulation, which went into effect Jan 1, 2020.
Our Senior Technical Manager, Mr. Graham Calder said in LUBES’N’GREASES (edition: Jan 2020) that with less sulfur from fuels, marine engine oils are likely to have high enough BN for compliant vessels and the reformulation for lubes will be built from the beginning, with lubricity and cleanliness in engine operation being the main drivers.
